I have recently picked up a new, old CD the CD dates from 2001. It is marked as copy protected It is manufactured by Sony DADC. I remember there was a thing years ago about copy protection software installing root kits. I?m a little concerned to put this CD in my PC. Does anyone know if it?s safe or if there?s anything I can do to stop it from installing outdated, insecure and dodgy software on my computer? I want to rip it with EAC should that cause any issues.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Didn't Sony have to release something to remove it later? I remember the original was basically a rootkit for windows.... sorry mac Sony hated you.

as long as you set windows to never autorun CD's without asking you first what do you, it wont install. Sony DADC is just the manufacturer, and the rootkit filled discs are most likely just on CDs from 2005-2006
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal And if I'm not misstaken, Windows 10 wont allow for some exe to run (like Securom)

There are ways to rip even the copy protected discs. In fact, sometimes it's required because they will not play in a lot of normal players.
