What's with this surge in putting mixes on Soundcloud and not have a download option, and most importantly, Why?

People assume followers and likes equals famous.... you want your DJ mixes heard not for "people to visit your page"... but that is not how the modern system works it seems.
It would be the same as back in the 90's making a mixtape and not handing it out to people. Come listen to it on my walkman, no you can't take a copy with you.
You want DJ bookings? Spread that shit as much as you can... want internet fame? buy followers to like and comment your mix... maybe get bookings that way?

I just feel back in the 2000s on here, people were posting mixes left and right to get the music out, not to keep it.

At some points I want to hide the tracklist so it becomes a surprise to whoever listens.
I used to have a javascript on my website that hide the tracklist until you clicked a button.
