The whole world's gone crazy...

I heard a discussion about the same thing...what I heard was shockingly true.

I girl now, can't walk home alone with fear from getting attacked, raped etc.. which is a proper shame and is sick.
Teenage pregnancies are far more so now, than they would have been all those years ago...
And gone are the days when the bride's family pays for the wedding...shame!

But at the same time....so many things have changed and evolved since then....so I think i'm gonna sit on the fence for this one... [:D

I personally think it's worse. As has just been said, there are old ladies getting beaten up inside their own homes, vandalism, rape, shootings. I think this 'gang' culture/yob culturehas really damaged society. Some 14 years olds seem to have no respect for anything.

I'd say its about the same. Yeah things have changed but somethings like racism are not as bad as back then but we alkso have a load of new problems.

Hello, I love you.

Well I think with the recent aniversary of Auschwitz, I'd like to think that as humans we've come on, but we certainly haven't come on leaps and bounds. People are often too rude, selfish and ignorant for their own good imo. And the problems that once were still seem to be with us.....just located in different parts of the world.

It's all a matter of perception.

1) Everyone has a favourite decade where things for them were great, so they generally only remember the good times and this is translated into their view of the world as a whole.

2) also if you were an Aussie I'm sure you'd think the world isn't too bad given how cool your country is at the moment. Would an Iraqi think the same thing?

IMO the world is getting worse. Everywhere greed is spiraling out of control. We have no future to worry about because there won't be one the way we are carrying on. Obivously I'm referring to the bigger issues like capitalist imperialism and the resulting terrorist threat. It's only a matter of time before terrorists can build home-made nukes and then you can potentially say goodbye to 1 city at a time.

Either way, a religious war is one no-one can ever win without total extermination of the other side. You cannot subvert a belief, you cannot discredit it or destroy it and you cannot offer a truce once a war is started. You can only kill the believers of that belief - every single one of them...

Deep enough answer for ya?

in the words of Reverend Lovejoy: "Ned, have you ever considered any of the other religions? They're all pretty much the same"

In all honesty, we're probably about on the same page as most people were 40 years ago. Thanks to the media it's just now more known what's going on.

I think brian k's got it there, i mean a lot of the problems weve got today were around back then but now we're shown them every five minutes on the tv, radio or in newspapers etc. on the whole i dont thinks arent that much better or worse (apart from the internet, hardcore and all the stuff we love :D) but yeah i think any problems which we've solved have been replaced by others pretty quickly, sad eh?

^^ ^^ Very true about coverage altering peoples perceptions on things, think it was a lot easier if you and your peers were alright back then to not realise the shit people were going through 10 minutes down the road from you cos you never heard about it. One major change since then is the drug problem that has pretty much ****ed up large parts of this country. Suppose it does come down to the fact they'd had to go through massive wars together that brought them closer whereas a lot of people now have no respect for each other and more assaults etc. Not even that though it also totally matters where you are as mattikake says even in britain it's like that, if you go to the highlands or the lake district where it's really nice and peaceful strangers will have a chat in the street then go for a pint whereas that wouldnt ever happen in london. Nice topic anyway mate.

Venga familia!!!

The trouble is the media control exactly what they want you to see and think... Unfortunately it's all based on sensationalism. The more shocking the more papers, internet hits, TV channel useage they get. It's all based on making money (although admitedly there probably is some truth sometimes, but how do you know what is real and what isn't? Answer: You can't).

The question is, IS anyone controlling the media and if so, who is it? Government? Corporations? Simple greed? Something more sinister?

The only place you can really trust is the internet and the free (and unchecked) exchange of ideas and this may yet be the very thing that saves the human race from total destruction...
