Anyone ever see the movie "Waking Life"?
It's basically about dreaming after death.
Like a normal dream at night seems like it takes All night to undergo, when actually it was the last dream you had before you woke up, and they say a normal dream only takes around 12 seconds.
It also explains how when you die, you have 12 Minutes of brain activity still flowing. So when you pass away, take that 12 second dream you had the night before and equate it to Now 12 Minutes of brain activity when you die... THat would seem like an eternity of a dream. So basically Heaven, if there this, which i do not know, would seem like an eternity.
And what would happen when that 12 minutes of brain activity is up? Does your mind stay in heaven while your soul moves from your body onto a new born baby? Per say, reancarnation? LIke a never ending cycle of life, souls moving on to other souls?
But then you say, well what about our population growing rapidly in the world? Then i say, could your soul move onto a new born dog, cat, perrot, bug, insect, etc.?
It's an extremely philosophical idea that my Philosophy club was disccussing last friday. I'm not trying to be religous or stir any arguments, just a discussion.
Anyone ever think about this, what do you guys think?

I've seen that movie before and would definatly recomend that everyone should see it.
The thing about life after death is that there are so many theorys and all are impossible to prove. You could theorize on and on but never come to a clear conclusion. I think there has to be some kinde of "afterlife" (possibly something kinda like reicarnation) because you cannot destroy or create matter. So your "soul" or whatever you want to call it has to go somewhere.
Thats really interesting about the 12 minutes of brain activity. Time is relative. Thoes 12 minutes could never end for that one person but for thoes around him or her its just 12 minutes.
The minde is a very powerfull thing. What we believe is true and real in our eyes. So maybe what you believe what will happen after death will happen to you but not to everyone else.
Hello, I love you.

good topic, i have a few ideas and do believe in god and so on but i don't believe in heaven, well the stereotypical image of it anyways
i really don't know, i hope there is something to look forward to after you die though, can't stand the thought that your whole body, minds, soul just ceases to exist anymore

point taken.
But try looking at it this way... What if someone died in a World War for example, and their head was completely blown off into smitherines from this huge bomb... The brain is gone into millions of pieces, lol. So with this being said, what would happen to that 'brain activity' they say would happen. Would you not go into that "deep dreaming state" becuase of what had happened to ur brain? Wonder what would happen to your soul then.

mmm lucid dreaming.
there's no way to really disprove or prove that this is what happens, unless I suppose you try and copy flatliners.
since I hardly ever dream (well I guess I should say remember them), it might be nice to have a dream that lasts for eternity...assuming it's a good one =P
but then again maybe life as we know it is a fabrication and we are living out a dream right now.

I'm abit scared about death. Well, who wouldnt be, but its not like scared, scared. I get very anxious when i think about it, so i usually try not to. It would be nice to believe in heaven and all that stuff, but i dont. The cease to exist thing is what scares me. Whatever happens, i would still want to be able to think, i guess.
That dreaming eternity thingy is kind of intresting (havent seen that movie), what if the religions are referring to that when speaking of hell/heaven. I mean if your a complete *******, the memories wouldnt be that shiny :p

Ive always thought of after death being one long dream.. and ive never even hurd of that move, but the 15 secnd dream thing is quite interesting, im not to scared of death in my but efferctin my family worries me alot, i dont really belive in spirits and stuff like that, i think its just something of a berived person to ease there pain and mind if that makes any sense!
Once your dead your dead, knowone knows what its like so its just another of one of the worlds unknown issues! which is kind of cool in a way, makes things exiting :P

talkin about unknown issues: I'm real interested in the paranormal. For example, ufo's, bigfoot, the lockness monster, aliens, ghosts/spirits. It really facinates me.

ok anyone seen the beach? well in the book (which i actually read and prefered to the film) there is this explanation kinda thing, i took it in my head and changed it to the way i want to believe... it is that every star in the sky is another Earth. and on every Earth you live your life once more exactly the same, but one minor detail changes. so the further away the star, the more changes in your life have happened...
dunno if that makes any sence... just something that i think about sometimes

Your soul is energy. Electricity. So are memories. When you die that energy is removed from the shell and is sent back to where it came from (the universe). It just doesnt disperse. Why would it? Everything is magnetic, including people. That attracts one type of energy which in turn attracts the opposite. Thats what a soul is. Once that bond is formed it wouldn't make any sense for it to break. So if the energy doesn't disperse and memories are electrical signals then that would explain why people have flashbacks of past lives. Its the new brain (computer) being able to decode bits of those electrical signals that were encoded by another brain (computer). Heaven isn't a place, its a different existence all together. The first and only real existence. Its where everything came from.
That 12 minuts of brain function is your brain shutting down your organs, like closing up shop, and "downloading" the stored information to your soul.
Make any sense?

you mean kinda like parallel universes emmy, where every decision in your life that is made there stems off another one for the opposite decision you make in this universe?
not explained well really but then again i am tired
i would hate to think that though once you die, you cease to exist, no thought anything again, ever, it is quite scary, mainly cos people are scared when they are no longer in control of their situation, everyone likes to believe they are in control and it is scary when they can't as they have no ability to decide where it is going

interesting one to ponder on definatly.
i always find the saying "life after death" kind of weird
death is death, if your "alive" after death...that makes you alive :P
but yeah, gotta love flatliners .. a wee favorite of mine.
i used to spend alot of time thinking about the ol "life after death" thing - but after reading the K-PAX triology and a few other books, it really got me thinking about dealing with what is around - everything that is odd - stuff that cant be explained
ugh..i suppose i could blah on for ages, but
eh nothing, carry on people - guess i have nothing interesting to add - other than you should allllll read the K-PAX triology - or at least watch the film, but if you've seen the film and enjoyed it, you should read the books because it only gets wierder!
