Question
When songs have the artist as
1) x & y
2) x vs. y
3) x ft. y
what is the difference between them all, i know ft is usually a vocalist but what about &/vs
to add to that, what about collabs that do have the two artists names and instead have a completely new alias, how often thats used, what would most of you say?
examples being something like
Dougal & Gammer - who haven't come with a new alias
or
TNT "which is Aka Technoboy 'N' Tuneboy"

dougal and gammer do go under other alias' together
they all pretty much mean the same thing these days
though ft. usually indicates that that the ft. is the lesser of the two partys, like an afterthought
ie: Rihanna would have only added her vocals to a David Guetta song

I've often thought about this, and I was really thinking about it yesterday. Weird you made a topic about it on the same day. (ish),
Yeah, as you say, the "ft." is quite obvious, but I've been curious about the "&" and "vs" thing for a long time. Especially when you have:
"Sausage & Egg vs Mustard & Cream", as an example.
Rowan, what's the other Dougal & Gammer aliases? I'm not doubting they exist, just curious. I know they are United In Dance when they get together with Darren Styles (been a while!), but I can't think off the top of my head of their own personal alias.

"x vs y" can also mean "x - song (y remix)"

hmm, discogs lists them as
Cobalt & Heffer, Darkside (7), November (4), Robbing, Saints, The (6)
i'm sure there are others though :)

vs. means versus and stands for some kind of mashup. Like the new song Run to me - Scott Brown vs Al Storm because the melody is from a scott brown track and Al Storm did other things in the song. It's a bit also like a mashup of different styles of artists (each artist has his own style/sound).
x&y doesn't mean anything I guess, it's just what is pronounced easier but not that x had done more than y.

"&" is a straight up collab.
"vs" is normally a type of remix or bootleg, with little or no involvement from the original party (I think)
"feat." normally means it features a singer or vocalist, or another kind of party. Sometimes featuring is used to avoid using "Name1 & Name2 & Name 3 - Song1"

What i do wonder, is when a pair of artist would find it necessary to make a new alias for the pair of them and when its not. im sure there are examples of when its not needed but was done regardless
