I recently downloaded a demo version of cubase SX, I have no idea how it works, i just want to put together a lil choon or two, to muck around on, do i need samples or WTF. in other words WTF are samples, all the devices's and choonz are still active in the demo version if that helps
much apreaciate the help..all i wanna do is put together a beat

LoL! Cubase is mad confusing. There's too much to explain in a post but check out www.computermusic.co.uk and www.futuremusic.co.uk, they have good tutorials (in their magazines, at least... CM did a whole magazine just on cubase tutorials.)
